Akari YP1 is a pendant lamp from Vitra designed by the Japanese-American artist Isamu Noguchi in 1951. The lamp is handmade in shoji paper, paper made from the bark of mulberry trees, and is held up by a steel wire structure. Akari YP1 is part of the Akari lamp series, a series of lamps designed by Noguchi and handcrafted by Japanese craftsmen. In Noguchi's work artistically linked to abstract expressionism and his design language came to have a great influence on the design of the 1950s. All light sculptures in the Akari series are marked with a logo representing the sun and the moon, which confirms the authenticity of each product.
