Akari 75A is a shoji paper pendant lamp from Vitra designed by the Japanese-American sculptor, architect and designer Isamu Noguchi in 1951. Shoji paper comes from the bark of mulberry trees and is strung over steel wire to give the lamp its fine shape. Akari 75A is part of the Akari lamp series, a series of lamp fittings where all are designed by Noguchi and made by hand by Japanese craftsmen. Noguchi's work is artistically linked to abstract expressionism and his style came to have a major influence on 1950s design. All light sculptures in the Akari series are marked with a logo representing the sun and the moon, which confirms the authenticity of each product.
