Medicom Toy decorative objects

Japanese Medicom Toy started in 1996 under the slogan “Make things we want” and has since grown into a global phenomenon. They design and produce various characteräristic figures - design objects that take inspiration from animation, video games, television, film and popular culture and are produced in limited editions. One of the most popular collectibles belongs to the BE@RBRICK series, a cult figure in the shape of a bear that has built a huge fan base around the world.

BE@RBRICK as a collector's item

The first BE@RBRICK was launched in 2001, the same year as the 100th anniversary of the teddy bears. It took inspiration from Kubrick, another line of collectibles from Medicom Toy. Kubrick is similar in shape to a human and was created as a tribute to director Stanley Kubrick. "Cow" means "nine" in Japanese. Kubrick and BE@RBRICK are made up of nine parts: head, torso, hips, arms, hands and legs that can be touched. Most BE@RBRICKs are made of plastic, but some series have also been created in materials such as metal and wood.

BE@RBRICK has become one of the most popular characters in the world and a leading figure in collectible toys of our time. The unlimited possibilities in the choice of the latest design have contributed to a sense of fun that has only fueled Medicom Toys' cult following. It has also paved the way for other brands to launch their own limited editions and toy items, especially in the streetwear industry where BE@RBRICK has occupied a special place.

From Supreme to Basquiat and Nicole Kidman

Medicom Toy has collaborated with both the art and fashion worlds in celebrated limited editions signed by KAWS, Chanel, Andy Warhol, Basquiat, BAPE, Supreme and Comme des Garcons, among others. Some BE@RBRICKs today can fetch millions at auction and the beloved figure has been exhibited in museums as well as being collected by A-list celebrities such as Pharrell Williams and Nicole Kidman.
