Gufram
Gufram is an Italian interior design brand that has become world famous for its experiments in radical design. By exploring and researching multiple technical, material and aesthetic aspects, the company has had amazing success in creating interior items that have become iconic as their playful and subversive products that have a strong pop character. This not only goes against the grain of traditional design, but has also gained great significance in the collective imagination.
Since 1966, Gufram has been producing furniture and design icons that are uniquely designed to reflect the industrial production process and traditional craftsmanship, while conveying a modern sensibility. Based in Turin, Italy, the company has blended expert craftsmanship with international art trends to create innovative contemporary furniture. The materials bring out the best in each piece of furniture and Gufram's team always creates something truly remarkable. The journey began in Turin over 50 years ago and since then, Gufram's designs have reached all over the world.
Gufram rose to fame in the 1970s with its stunningly iconic furniture and has become one of the key players at the intersection of art and design around the world. With a deep understanding of the relationship between aesthetics and culture, the renowned manufacturer has truly left its mark through classic furniture such as Bocca, Pratone and Cactus. Currently on display in some of the most prestigious homes and museums around the world, Gufram's indoor sculptures are sure to combine beauty with comfort for many years to come.
In 2012, Gufram was acquired by entrepreneur Sandra Vezza. In order to join one of the world's leading suppliers of interior design trends, the headquarters were moved to Barolo, a location that has all the qualities to contribute to its success. This region, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2014, is known for its international food and wine. Thanks to Charley Vezza's creative direction, Gufram managed to re-launch its brand with new business and communication strategies that took full effect during the celebration of its 50th anniversary in 2016.
Innovative and original design
Gufram has embraced the challenge of creating innovative and creative shapes, which has allowed them to refine their unique production techniques. This includes the art of processing flexible polyurethane, as well as being able to produce the patented Guflac finish - reflecting the company's expertise in craftsmanship. Through this specialised treatment, it makes surfaces more uniform and cohesive while maintaining elasticity. It thus enables the formulation of soft and supple shapes that would not be possible to achieve with other processes.
Applying several layers of Guflac to the precision-cut polyurethane surfaces is a time-consuming but satisfying task. After undergoing an initial saturation phase, up to 12 additional layers are applied by hand. The slight variations achieved on each individual object as a result of this painstaking process ensure an individuality and uniqueness that cannot be replicated by mass production methods.
