ClassiCon is a German furniture company that strives to produce unique products with the potential to become future classics. The brand is based on the idea that collectibles are not only the classics of yesterday, but also the masterpieces of tomorrow.
ClassiCon works with up-and-coming designers, including Eileen Gray and Eckart Muthesius, and always invests energy in high quality in preference to large quantities. An example of this is that all the pieces of furniture in their “Classic Collection” are labelled and sequentially numbered. The ClassiCon logo certifies quality and that each piece is an authentic replica of the original, made with the consent of the rights holders. ClassiCon stands for quality, modern design, individuality, and old-fashioned esthetics, regardless of trends.
True quality that stands the test of time
More important than a famous name is for a designer to have shown innovation through formal concepts. An approach that helps ClassiCon to continuously discover exciting new young designers. In the case of Konstantin Grcic, this has resulted in a long-lasting collaboration, evident from the very beginning through his reference to the iconic Eileen Gray in his Orcus bureau. Adjustable table E 1027 by Eileen Gray is perhaps the classic among classics. Its ingenious proportions have made this tubular steel, powder-coated, height-adjustable side table one of the most popular design icons of the 1920s. It is named after E 1027 “Maison en bord de mer”, a summer house built by Eileen Gray for herself and her collaborator, Jean Badovici.
The Banu stool was designed by Eckart Muthesius for the Maharaja’s palace in Indore. By using polished stainless steel and a very demanding working process, the frame, shown from all sides, appears to be made in one piece. The Bibendum lounge chair is a Nordiska Galleriet favorite. With its chrome-plated frame and a striking design inspired by the Michelin Man, it is sure to elevate any room.
ClassiCon designer furniture is on display at venues including MoMA in New York, Centre Pompidou in Paris, and the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein. The Centimetre rug by Eileen Gray, for example, designed in 1926 and authorized by Aram Designs Ltd, London, was presented at imm cologne in 2017.
