HAY's Nelson Ball Bubble is a white hanging lamp by George Nelson, designed as early as 1952. The lamp is available in small, medium, and large sizes, as are several other models in the collection, allowing you to create stunningly beautiful constellations in varying shapes and sizes. All lamps come with nickel details that nicely complement the lovely white fabric. Not only is the material great for supplying a soft dispersal, but it also comes to life when the lamp is lit , appearing to almost appears to glow.

The inspiration behind Nelson Ball Bubble and the rest of the collection came when George Nelson saw an exclusive Swedish hanging lamp that he wanted to adorn his office with. As it was very expensive, he decided to develop his own version. However, the manufacturing process proved far too complicated ever to reach a wider market. It wasn't long, however, before the designer had a new idea, while reading the newspaper and watching an entire ship being covered with a protective fabric. In doing so, he would become one of the very first to produce lamps in which a fabric was spun over a light metal frame - something that would become hugely popular in the 1960s.
