Antonio Citterio 1950
Antonio Citterio werd geboren in 1950 in Meda, Italië, en is werkzaam als meubel- en industrieel ontwerper. Citterio, net als vele andere toonaangevende Italiaanse architecten en ontwerpers, werd opgeleid aan de beroemde Polytechnische Universiteit van Milaan.
Op 22-jarige leeftijd opende Citterio zijn eerste ontwerpstudio, nog voordat hij was afgestudeerd. In de loop der jaren heeft hij samengewerkt met een aantal grote merken, waaronder B&B Italia, Iittala, Flexform, Kartell en Vitra. Bij B&B Italia heeft Citterio een groot aantal stukken ontworpen voor de Maxalto-collectie.
In 1987 richtte Antonio Citterio samen met Terry Dwan Studio Citterio/Dwan op. Ze brachten negen jaar samen door, waarin ze talloze gebouwen in heel Europa en Japan ontwierpen. Vanaf 1999 leidde Citterio Antonio Citterio & Partners samen met Patricia Viel, een ontwerpstudio die zich richt op architectuur en industrieel ontwerp. Sinds 2009 staat de studio bekend als Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel & Partners. Ze werken internationaal aan architectuur en stedenbouw voor zowel kantoor- als commerciële gebouwen.
In 1987 en 1994 werd Antonio Citterio bekroond met de "Compasso d'Oro". Van 2006 tot 2016 was hij hoogleraar architectonisch ontwerp aan de Accademia di Architettura di Mendrisio. In 2000 richtte hij samen met Patricia Viel "Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel" op, een multidisciplinaire praktijk voor architectuur en interieurontwerp. Het bureau werkt internationaal enontwikkelt complexe projecten op alle schalen, in samenwerking met een gekwalificeerd netwerk van gespecialiseerde adviseurs.
Verschillende werken van Citterio maken deel uit van de permanente collectie van MoMA en worden tentoongesteld in het Musée National d'Art Moderne in Parijs. Tot Citterio's meest recente werken behoren de Grand Repos-stoel, de Suita- en Charles-bank en de Mera-tafels. Naast meubelontwerp is Citterio ook betrokken geweest bij tal van architectonische projecten in Italië en daarbuiten, waaronder de Duitse fabriek van Vitra in Neuchâtel. Tegenwoordig is Citterio een veelgevraagd spreker op conferenties over de hele wereld. De meeste werken van Citterio zijn te vinden bij NO GA.
