Akari 9A is a screen lamp from Vitra designed by the Japanese-American designer Isamu Noguchi in 1951 as part of the Akari lamp series. The Akari lamp series consists of lamps made from shoji paper by hand by Japanese craftsmen. Akari 9A is designed in white shoji paper with a steel frame surrounded by bamboo wood. Shoji paper is paper made from the bark of the mulberry tree. The lamp is held up by three black lacquered steel legs. All light sculptures in the Akari series are marked with a logo representing the sun and the moon, which confirms the authenticity of each product.
