We welcomed Range Rover to our showroom with an exclusive panel discussion, moderated by Hanna Nova Beatrice, Chief Editor of The New Era Magazine. Together with some of today's most influential designers and creative leaders – Chris Martin of Massproductions, Anna Holmquist of Folk Form Studio and the curator, author and critic James Taylor-Foster – the discussion was about what makes something a design icon under the theme: A Design Icon for Design Icons.
For the panel discussion, each panelist chose a design icon that has shaped their perception of modern design today, and the curated pieces are featured in a special exhibition that you are welcome to discover in our showroom at Nybrogatan 11.
Design: Alvar Aalto for Artek
Chosen as a design icon by Hanna Nova Beatrice
The Artek Stool 60, designed by Alvar Aalto in 1933, is a celebrated classic paying tribute to its thoughtful design, innovative bentwood technique, and its ability to stay relevant over time. Artek has played a vital role in looking after its heritage with regular introductions of limited editions and collaborations with contemporary designers, artists and design brands to stay fresh and reach new audiences. Without interfering with the stools essence they also periodically update finishes, colors, and materials on the stool. This careful balance of heritage and innovative collaborations and colour alterations has allowed the stool to stay current without compromising its original design.
The Nordiska Galleriet Exclusive Edition of Stool 60 and Stool NE60 is only available at Nordiska Galleriet and features the 1912 checked floor of the showroom on the seat. Nordiska Galleriet also recently launched an exclusive edition in curly birch.
Design: Chris Martin for Massproductions
Chosen as a design icon by Chris Martin
Launched in 2024 by Massproductions and designed by Chris Martin himself, the Woodwerk Chair is a design icon for its seamless blend of formality and comfort. By solving the longstanding challenge of combining curved backs with the strict geometry of wooden chairs, Woodwerk uses a gentle twist in the back legs to harmoniously connect the back and frame. This subtle twist results in an elegant, stackable chair that exemplifies both innovation and timeless craftsmanship.
Design: Charlotte Perriand for Cassina
Chosen as a design icon by James Taylor-Foster
The swiveling LC7 Chair, designed by Charlotte Perriand in 1927, is a subtle yet iconic classic, crafted by this designer-turned-architect. Perriand, a visionary advocate of l’art de vivre (the art of life), sought to blend our material surroundings with the harmony that resonates within us. The LC7 Chair embodies this philosophy through its clarity, simplicity and functional beauty, standing as a true design icon that continues to inspire and connect.
Design: Egon Riss
Chosen as a design icon by Anna Holmquist
Designed by Egon Riss in 1939, the Penguin Donkey is a true design icon, celebrated for its distinctive curves and organic form crafted from thin layers of plywood. Still handmade in London by its original maker, it represents a timeless commitment to craftsmanship that transcends modern manufacturing. Tradition here serves as a wellspring of innovation, adding depth and meaning to the object itself – a process that is at the heart of great design.
In Scandinavia, we are used to the fact that there are several flexible shelving systems and storage solutions to choose from, where different parts can be used to customise something that covers all everyday needs. Many people have grown up with shelving systems such as String or Elfa, which have achieved their popularity thanks to an extremely well thought-out design, good choice and relatively easy assembly. However, it is all the more difficult to get a shelving system to suit everyone's needs in terms of different styles, which therefore leaves plenty of room for competition.

1940s design America belonged to the husband-and-wife team of Charles and Ray Eames, whose playful and experimental approach to design created a whole new topology of furniture in innovative materials. The couple also designed their home, a modernist gem in Pacific Palisades, with room for great personality.
