Akari 10A was designed by Isamu Noguchi in 1951 for Vitra. The floor lamp is part of Noguchi's iconic series Akari Light Sculptures, consisting of a group of lamps which are hand-made with Shoji paper according to Japanese tradition. The paper is wrapped around an inner structure of steel wire and bamboo. In total, the collection consists of 100 different models and sizes in the form of table, ceiling and floor lamps. Each with its own unique expression.
The light from the Akari lamps is filtered through the clear shoji paper with the aim of giving a sense of the natural and warm glow of the sun, which fills our rooms at night when it is at its darkest.
