In the fourth issue of The New Era Magazine, we explore how objects in our environment affect us and what personal meaning they have. We visit architect Petra Gipp in her home and get an insight into the home of a brand director, who uses her family home as a testing ground for new products and furniture. We discuss the concept of home with artist Miriam Bäckström and architect Eero Koivisto, who share their favorite objects. For Eero Koivisto, a bowl is not just a bowl, it carries a story. “When you stop seeing something, it's time to replace it with something else,” says Koivisto.
In another part of the issue, we visit a home that resembles a spaceship and another built from four types of wood. It highlights great initiatives and really good furniture. “I've never quite understood how people can be so attached to new furniture,” says design writer Hugo McDonald when asked what attracts him. "It takes decades of heavy use to mold a good chair into something irresistibly comfortable. There is no better testament to the quality of furniture than time."
