Chieftain Footstool was designed by Finn Juhl in 1953 as a complement to the iconic Chieftain Chair, one of Finn Juhl's true masterpieces. Inspired by modern art, this footstool was designed. Together with the Chieftain Chair, these formed a contrast to traditional Danish furniture design and strict functionalism in terms of form and function and materials. Chieftain Footstool is made of walnut or oak and is upholstered in leather or sheepskin in several different finishes. Since 2015, this footstool is back in production by House of Finn Juhl.
Chieftain Chair is one of Finn Juhl's most iconic creations and symbolizes the pinnacle of his career as a furniture designer. Launched in 1949, the iconic Chieftain Chair was to become one of the single most important pieces of furniture in the development of the Danish Modern movement in the United States in the 1950s. It is therefore no coincidence that Finn Juhl is often referred to as "the father of modern Danish design".
