The 4130 Grand Prix chair from Fritz Hansen was designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1957 and launched that same year at the Danish Museum of Art & Design in Copenhagen during the Designers Spring Exhibition. Later that year, the chair was exhibited at the Triennale in Milan, where it won the Grand Prix for the show's most outstanding work. Since then, the chair has been known under the same name and launched in several versions. Like Arne Jacobsen's Ant and Seven, the Grand Prix is also made of molded veneer. Each chair's shell is created in one piece, consisting of nine layers of veneer and two layers of Indian cotton that are molded into the correct shape with steam. This gives the chair a comfortable flexibility.
