The 4130 Grand Prix chair from Fritz Hansen was designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1957 and launched the same year at the Danish Museum of Art & Design in Copenhagen during the Designers Spring Exhibition. Later that year, the chair was exhibited at the Triennale in Milan, where it won the Grand Prix for the show's most outstanding work. Since then, the chair has been known under the same name and launched in several versions. The 4130 Grand Prix has beautiful wooden legs that match the shell and is available in several different types of wood and finishes.
Like Arne Jacobsen's Myran and Sjuan, Grand Prix is also made of pressed veneer. Each chair's shell is created in one piece, consisting of nine layers of veneer and two layers of Indian cotton that are pressed into its correct shape over steam. This gives the chair a comfortable flexibility. The backrest can also be folded down, which contributes to the high comfort.
