Fritz Hansen's great Series 7 was designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1955 and comes as a desk chair. 3217 The Series 7 has the same design as the original 3107 but has also been fitted with comfortable armrests and a chrome-plated, swivel base on wheels.
Series 7 is based on the same innovative manufacturing process as Jacobsen's classic Ant chair. The seat and backrest are created in one piece, consisting of nine layers of veneer layered with two layers of Indian cotton and pressed into its exact shape. This has given the Series 7 a thin and stylish shell seemingly made of one piece of wood. The backrest can also be flexed, which contributes to the elevated level of comfort. The chair is available in a range of wood types and colors, with a painted, clear lacquered or fully lacquered finish. A lacquered finish leaves the natural texture of the wood visible, making each chair unique. With a fully varnished surface, each chair is identical. The assorted colors and wood types can be combined in groups. The 3217 Series 7 desk chair is equally at home or at work.
Series 7 has become Fritz Hansen's most popular chair of all time and has been launched in several versions. Nordiska Galleriet was the first recipient of the Series 7 in Sweden, and the chair is currently one of the most popular furniture pieces. Its popularity speaks volumes about its iconic status, with the form, function, and modern design history of the Series 7 making it a classic and a firm favorite with us.
