Arne Jacobsen designed the 3130 Grand Prix chair for Fritz Hansen in 1957 and launched it that year at the Danish Museum of Art Design in Copenhagen during the Designers Spring Exhibition. Later that year, the chair was shown at the Triennale in Milan, where it won the Grand Prix for the show's most distinguished work. Since then, the chair has gone by the same name. 3130 Grand Prix - Wood veneer has delicate chrome legs and is also lightweight and stackable. The shell comes in two different wood types: walnut veneer, and oak veneer.
Like Arne Jacobsen's Ant and Series 7, Grand Prix is also made from compression molded veneer. Each chair's shell is created in one piece, consisting of nine layers of veneer and two layers of Indian cotton that have been molded into their correct shape over steam. This gives the chair a comfortable flexibility.
