The 699 Superleggera chair has been in production since 1957 and was created by the Italian architect and designer Giò Ponti. This version of the 699 Superleggera Black/White comes with a two-tone frame in black and white that is made of ash and has a seat that comes in black or white leather. The chair takes its name Superleggera from the Italian word superleggera, which means super light.
When Giò Ponti designed the chair, he wanted to create a sturdy chair with as few form elements as possible to accentuate the chosen shapes. With its simple wooden frame and straight lines, it was unique when it came onto the market and the chair has come to represent modern Italian design. Superleggera is a design favorite with us at Nordiska Galleriet. We like to decorate with the chair in our exhibition and let it stand for the skilled Italian craftsmanship we celebrate.
