Vittorio Bertazzoni perusti vuonna 1948 Vittorio Bertazzonin Guastallassa, lähellä Reggio Emiliaa Pohjois-Italiassa. Yritys valmistaa kodinkoneita moderniin kotiin, jossa muotoilu on pääosassa. Smeg tunnetaan parhaiten 1950-luvun tyylisten retrojääkaappien FAB-sarjasta, jossa on terävät kulmat ja joka on saatavana useissa eri väreissä ja kuvioissa.

Aikojen saatossa valikoima on ehdottomasti muuttanut tapaa, jolla katsomme kodinkoneita ja kodinkoneita, ja retrovaikutteisista tuotteista on tullut todellisia kulttikohteita niiden yksilöllisten persoonallisuuksien ansiosta.

Symboliset esineet ja tyyli-ikonit, jotka muuttavat huoneen

Vuonna 1948 Smeg syntyi talouskasvun ja nopean kaupungistumisen aikana, joka muutti radikaalisti ihmisten elämäntapoja ja elämäntyylejä. Syntyi uusi keittiöperheen käsite, joka innoitti Smegiä kehittämään tuotteita, jotka vastasivat uusia teknisiä vaatimuksia ja mullistivat ihmisten kotiympäristön. Kodinkoneita ja kodinkoneita alettiin pitää statussymboleina, ja kotitöistä tuli paljon helpompia ja samalla paljon miellyttävämpiä.

50-luvun lopulla Smeg toi markkinoille yhden ensimmäisistä kaasuliedestä, jossa oli automaattinen sammutus, ja vuonna 1963 yritys toi markkinoille televisio- ja astianpesukonevalikoimansa. Joitakin vuosia myöhemmin he toivat markkinoille 60-senttisen astianpesukoneen, jossa oli tilaa 14 astialle, mikä oli maailman ensimmäinen laite, jota pidetään nykyään vakiona. Smeg toi myös ensimmäisenä markkinoille sisäänrakennettavat astianpesukoneet ja uunit. 1990-luvulla he laajensivat tuotevalikoimaansa esimerkiksi lavuaareihin, työtasoihin ja 50-luvun tyyliin sopiviin jääkaappeihin, joista tuli pian maailmankuuluja ja Smeg-brändin synonyymi.

Smeg on tehnyt yhteistyötä kansainvälisesti tunnettujen arkkitehtien ja suunnittelijoiden kanssa 1970-luvulta lähtien. Yritys ja tehdas toimii edelleen Guastallan kaupungissa, jossa se aikoinaan perustettiin, ja sitä johtaa nykyään kolmas sukupolvi Bertazzoni-yrittäjiä.
