HAY's Nelson Saucer CrissCross Bubble is a teapot-shaped hanging lamp with crossed metal rods, designed by George Nelson in 1952. The hanging lamp is also available with straight rods - both as a hanging lamp and a wall lamp. They are all part of the Nelson Bubble collection, which consists of lamps in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. This allows them to be neatly hung in a contrasting group that is also tied together by a common design language and material.
The inspiration for the lamps came in the early 1950s when George Nelson was looking for a new hanging lamp for his office. He came across a classic Swedish hanging lamp and wanted to develop his own interpretation. However, the manufacturing process was far too time-consuming and expensive ever to reach a wide market. The idea was put on hold until one morning when George Nelson was leafing through the newspaper and saw the military covering entire ships with a protective cloth. By the next day, he had produced his first prototype. No reviews
