The Spanish Chair, as it is also known, was created by Børge Mogensen in 1958 for Fredericia Furniture. The chair has become a symbol of the best in Danish design since the middle of the fourth century. The chair is made of solid oak and saddles. Choose between a black lacquered, red, black pad or oiled oak finish. The sturdy saddle is available in black, natural, and cognac.
It is ironic that one of the most symbolic pieces of Danish design is called The Spanish Chair. When Mogensen made the Spanish Chair and the other chairs in the series, he drew on traditional chairs from other cultures, such as English Windsor chairs and the shaker movement in America. In Spain, sturdy leather was often used to construct the seat as part of the wooden structure, and it is from this that the series takes its name. The Spanish chair is Børge Mogensen's most famous piece and is now a design classic. The chair is a prime example of Mogensen's philosophy of creating furniture with clean lines, strong construction, and natural materials that add another dimension to the furniture’s beauty and elegance.
