Stelton
Stelton was founded in the 1960s by Niels Stellan Høm and Carton Madelaire, two friends who decided to start a company together. After unsuccessful attempts with shoes and furniture, they come into contact with a small factory producing stainless steel tableware and Stelton's first kitchen accessory, a soap snipe, is born.
The soap snipe is popular far beyond expectations and the company hires a new managing director. Peter Holmblad comes in with a vision of renewed product development to create something a little more creative and innovative. Holmblad's stepfather is none other than Arne Jacobsen, and so a collaboration begins with one of Denmark's greatest designers of all time. The collaboration is Stelton's first step towards becoming the innovative, high-quality design house it is today, with a wide and well-known product range of everything from home furnishings to thermos flasks.
With an element of architecture in the kitchen accessories
When Stelton begins its collaboration with Arne Jacobsen, he already has a long list of famous works behind him. In 1952, he designed the Myran, a chair that is still very popular in interior design today, and a few years later, the Egg and the Swan were born. Jacobsen, who is an architect at heart, is known for his ability to translate the proportions of architecture into his designs, which he also does in his collaboration with Stelton. In 1967, Arne Jacobsen produces the award-winning Cylinda series. The series, which consists of cylindrical stainless steel kitchen accessories, becomes the foundation of Stelton's design going forward. In the same year as the series is produced, it is awarded the ID Prize by the Danish Design Council and the following year Cylinda is awarded The International Design Award by The American Institute of Interior Design.
Stelton continues to collaborate with many famous designers such as HolmbäckNordentoft, the creators of the Emma series, and Bernadotte og Kylberg who have designed the Stockholm porcelain series. Erik Magnussen is the designer behind EM77, which includes the cylindrical thermos that is one of the company's best-selling products. With an eye for the classic, timeless and a sense for the demands of modern society, Stelton continues to deliver quality and popular design products.
