Jason Miller 1971
Jason Miller is an American designer and founder of the popular Brooklyn-based lighting manufacturer Roll & Hill. Miller was born in New York City but grew up in Darien, Connecticut before moving to New York to pursue a master's degree at the Academy of Art in New York City.
Before he devoted himself entirely to lighting design, Miller was also involved in art and advertising. From 1995 to 2001, Miller worked as an assistant to Jeff Koons and designer for Karim Rashid. In 2001, Miller started his own design studio, and five years later his work was featured in ”Design Life Now, the National Design Triennial” at the Cooper-Hewitt Museum. The previous year, he had been awarded the Bombay Sapphire “Rising Star Award” and in 2007 he was named “Best Breakthrough Designer” by Wallpaper magazine. In 2011, Miller was named “Designer of the Year” by the Brooklyn Museum. Jason Miller has exhibited in Tokyo, New York, Miami, L.A., Milan and elsewhere.
He has been called a multitasker, designing everything from furniture to lighting and interiors. His designs often draw on everyday aspects of American culture to create modern design objects that can just as easily be seen as conceptual art.
Miller has been acclaimed for his nature-inspired designs and is a stalwart among modern American designers. Today, he operates the Roll & Hill and Jason Miller Studios from his Sunset Park office. Roll & Hill not only produces Miller's designs, but also the work of Lindsey Adelman, Jonas Damon, Paul Loebach and Jonah Takagi, among others.
