Jaime Hayon was born in Madrid in 1974. After studying industrial design in Madrid and Paris, Hayon began working with the Fabrica design and communication academy in Italy in 1997. There he worked alongside the legendary visual designer Oliviero Toscani.
Hayon quickly rose from student to head of the design department and eight years later, in 2000, started his own studio. Today, Jaime Hayon is one of the world's most celebrated designers.
As a young man, Jaime got involved in skateboarding and the graffiti culture in Madrid where he grew up, which is reflected today in his challenging and playful design practice. Jaime continues to be inspired by his surroundings and is not afraid to think outside the box, resulting in original and interesting designs and interiors. Jaime has a versatile talent and has designed many iconic design pieces for Fritz Hansen, Bisazza and Mooi, among others, but also designs lighting and accessories. He is among the modern creators blurring the lines between art, decoration and design. Jaime creates high-quality, intricate and elegant objects and is one of the leading lights of modern design culture.
In recent years, Jamie has been involved in several projects creating interiors for hotels, restaurants and department stores. He combines artistic expression with a focus on function. Jaimie's work can be found in the permanent exhibitions of several prestigious intuitions. His work has also appeared in numerous prestigious art and design magazines and has won awards, including ”Best Installation” by Icon Magazine and the “Top 100 Top List” and ”Breakthrough Creator” by Wallpaper Magazine. Time Magazine has named him one of the 100 most relevant creatives of our time.
Jaime’s design practice is based on the idea that ”good design should invite love” and today is considered one of the world’s leading designers. Among Hayon's earliest works are the Ro armchair and the Favn sofa made by Danish Fritz Hansen. Jaime has offices in Italy, Spain and Japan, where he continues to be influenced by his surroundings and develop new innovative designs.
