The modern and stylish PK71 side table was designed by Poul Kjærholm and belongs to The Kjærholm Collection, which was developed in the early 1950s until the late 1960s. Upon the designer's death in 1980, Danish furniture manufacturer Fritz Hansen took over the collection and began producing all the iconic furniture created by the Dane. The young cabinetmaker joined Fritz Hansen after his studies at the Danish School of Arts and Crafts and showed a great interest in stoneware, which he considered a natural material due to its natural properties. For a year he worked for Fritz Hansen and developed several prototypes of furniture. Poul Kjærholms design style was minimalist, and he primarily used steel, glass, and clay to create his early and stylish furniture.
The PK71 side table consists of three tables that can be slid under each other. The top comes in acrylic with a satin-brushed stainless steel base. Whimsical in character, the small and abstract tables are dynamic and functional, inviting you to move them around wherever you like. The shape of the table represents Kjærholm's first use of the square in all three dimensions in his work, and PK71 is seen as the basis for the designer's more complex tables.
