DCWéditions
The French lighting company DCW éditions was established in 2008 by Philippe Cazer and Frédéric Winkler. The company was born out of the idea of taking up the production of the famous luminaires of inventor Bernard-Albin Gras.
The Gras lamp has become a reference point for modern lighting and was celebrated by Le Corbusier, among others. DCW éditions is evolving rapidly and, despite its youth, is one of the most exciting and interesting players in lighting design.
DCW éditions is renowned for its ability to highlight classic lamps and breathe new life into them through subtle updates, with the iconic Here Comes the Sun lamp from the 1970s being a prime example. In collaboration with designer Bertrand Balas, the unique lamp is being relaunched with the power to add a magical aura. Another famous lamp from the DCW éditions range is the classic Mantis lamp, designed by Bernard Schottlander. Mantis was originally created in 1951 as a tribute to the world-famous mobiles by artist Alexander Calder.
Lighting that never gives in to fashion
DCW éditions seeks not only to revive the production of old classics but also to collaborate with contemporary designers and architects. In 2015, the In the Tube lighting range was launched following collaboration with architect Dominique Perrault and designer Gaëlle Lauriot-Prévost. Like the other DCW éditions lamps, these really stand out with their unique look, as if from the set of a James Bond movie or Jules Verne sci-fi novel. Other examples of luminaires that the company produces in collaboration with contemporary designers include ISP Lamp, Biny and In The Sun. Whether DCW’s products—or objects as they prefer to call them—were designed today or 70 years ago, they have three things in common: they are well thought out, well designed and well made. DCW éditions believes that, if the lamps meet these criteria, they are made to stand the test of time and last for generations—something that is in line with the company’s motto of producing classic lamps that never give in to fashion.
