The Eames RE Plastic Chair DAW is an armchair designed in 1950 by Charles and Ray Eames for the Vitra brand. The plastic seat of the chair is mounted on a base of four chair legs made of maple. The pair of Eames multifunctional Plastic Chairs were first introduced at the "Low Cost Furniture Design" design competition held at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1950. Charles and Ray presented organically designed plastic chair seats that were combined with different bases, giving these chairs a multitude of different functions and serving different purposes. Today, the legendary Eames RE Plastic Chairs are manufactured by Vitra, which has revised the design and choice of materials for even higher seating comfort and quality. Since 2024, the shells of all Eames Plastic Chairs have been made of one hundred percent recycled plastic. The recycled plastic comes from collecting plastic packaging from German households, in the "Yellow Bag" collection program, and is of premium quality. Using recycled raw materials instead of petroleum-based primary plastic means that climate-damaging emissions are significantly reduced, as is primary energy consumption. The shell is of course recyclable at the end of its product life.
