USM

USM was established in 1885 by Ulrich Schärer in Munsingen, Switzerland, as a manufacturer of ironwork and window frames, and in the late 1940s the product line was expanded to include metal and plate processing. The company was taken over by Ulrich’s grandson Paul Schärer who, in 1961, changed direction by transforming the factory from a large production plant into a modern industrial company. Schärer hired Swiss architect Fritz Haller to design the new factory, with plenty of space for administrative offices.

Collaboration with Haller proved so successful that Schärer worked with Haller to create the pioneering storage system that is now known as USM Haller.

The simplicity of USM Haller gives the furniture modern flexibility as to how it can be configured and adapted to meet changing needs over time. The underlying driving force behind the modular system is that its form guides function. USM Haller is designed to be easily integrated into home and office environments with an appealing design.
