The Vitra 307 was designed in 1951 by Jean Prouvé. The stool was inspired by a tractor seat in its shape. In this version produced by Vitra, the seat is made of solid oak and metal legs. The 307 stool is available in stained oak or oiled oak. The legs are fitted with plastic anti-slip pads.
Jean Prouvé was born in Paris in 1901 and is one of the most influential designers and architects of the 20th century. Considered a leading exponent of the modernist design movement, Prouvé began his career as an apprentice to various blacksmiths and metalworkers. Today, Vitra produces a number of Prouvés popular pieces. These are considered design icons of the past and are as popular today as when they were designed.
