The Eames RE Plastic Armchair DAR is a dining room chair designed in 1950 by Charles and Ray Eames. It has a plastic seat mounted on a base of four chair legs made of chromed or black painted steel. Choose from several colors on the seat. DAR is also available fully clothed.
The pair of Eames multi-functional Plastic Chairs were first introduced at the "Low Cost Furniture Design" design competition held at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1950. Charles and Ray presented organically designed plastic chair seats that were combined with different bases, giving this seating furniture a plethora of different functions and could thus serve different purposes. Today, the legendary Eames RE Plastic Chairs are manufactured by Vitra as a revised design and material choice for even higher sitting comfort and quality.
The DAR chair (Dining Height Armchair Rod Base) combines light and elegant forms with a stable and graceful base which, due to its appearance, has come to be known as the 'Eiffel Tower'.
Since 2024, the shells of all Eames Plastic Chairs are made from one hundred percent recycled plastic. The recycled plastic originates from the collection of plastic packaging from German households, in the "Yellow Bag" collection program, and is of premium quality. Using recycled raw material instead of petroleum-based primary plastic means that climate-damaging emissions are significantly reduced, just like primary energy consumption. The shell is of course recyclable at the end of its product life.
