The Eames Fiberglass Chair DSW is part of the Charles Ray Eames line of chairs launched in 1950. The chair derives its charm from the molded fiberglass shell and comes in a variety of colors to choose from. The visible fibers are a welcome contrast to the black powder-coated steel base. The Eames multifunctional chair was introduced for the first time in the Low Cost Furniture Design competition held at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1948. The chair presented had a metal seat adapted to the shape of the body, which could be combined with different bases, giving these seats a variety of functions and serving different purposes. In order to make the chair a success, the couple had to find an alternative to the metal seat. The result was a seat made from fiberglass. Today, the legendary chairs are produced in both fiberglass and plastic by Vitra, which has revised the design and choice of materials for even greater seating comfort and quality.
