”He was a true visionary, “ says Christian Andresen, Design Director for Fritz Hansen of Denmark’s most prominent furniture designers, Poul Kjærholm. “Throughout his career, he worked with a concept of purity and simplicity in natural materials.”
In 1965, Kjærholm collaborated with photographer Keld Helmer-Petersen on the exhibition Strukturer in Copenhagen, showcasing the artistic potential of industrial materials. 60 years later, NO GA celebrates his visionary legacy with a special exhibition in Stockholm.
Poul Kjærholm, trained as a cabinetmaker and later educated at the Kunsthåndværkerskolen, transformed furniture design by incorporating steel as his signature material, often paired with leather, rattan, and marble. His minimalist approach emphasized light, simplicity, and natural materials.
Notable pieces like the PK22 chair and PK80 daybed exemplify his clean, functional designs. Fritz Hansen began producing his collection in 1982, preserving its timeless appeal.
Kjærholm’s 1965 exhibition illustrated his philosophy, displaying furniture components as sculptural forms alongside Helmer-Petersen’s photography. Today, his work remains a symbol of elegance and innovation, continuing to inspire new generations.
From modern cars and antique furniture to the Danish era and Viva l'italia, Nordiska Galleriet has been the country's favourite destination for exclusive design for almost 110 years.
