The PK25 armchair from Fritz Hansen was designed in 1951 by Poul Kjærholm. PK25 was Kjærholm's thesis at the School of Applied Arts in Copenhagen and has also been called The Element Chair. In PK25, it is clear that Kjærholm was early influenced by industrial shapes and materials in his design. The idea behind the armchair was to use only one whole piece of each material, which gave the armchair a stripped-down expression. The steel frame is bent in a single piece without joints and has a chrome-plated matt surface. The seat and backrest are created from a long rope of linen and nylon that is wrapped around the steel frame. The armchair is available with black or natural-colored rope. PK25 laid the foundation for Kjærholm's iconic PK22 armchair, with which he won the Grand Prix at the Triennale in Milan.
