Superellips is a classic dining table from Fritz Hansen, designed in 1968 through a collaboration between Piet Hein, Bruno Mathsson, and Arne Jacobsen. For this model, the table is extendable and comes in two sizes. The table top is available in two variants, laminate with an aluminum-clad edge or entirely in walnut veneer. The laminate top is available in several colors and is made of the particularly durable material Fenix laminate, which Fritz Hansen introduced for Superellips in 2017. Fenix laminate means an extra matte and scratch-resistant surface on the table top. The legs consist of removable steel clamping legs and are available with a chrome-plated or powder-coated finish in white, black, or gray. The table is also available with a fixed table top, see Superellips.
The inspiration behind Superellips comes from Piet Hein's ingenious solution to a traffic problem at Stockholm's Sergels square, a super-elliptical roundabout. Superellips has become one of Scandinavia's best-known tables and a true design icon from Fritz Hansen.
