The unique Spoke-Back Sofa was created by Børge Mogensen in 1945 for Fredericia Furniture. The sofa was designed as a hybrid between a daybed and a chair with one side folding down. At the time Mogensen made the Spoke-Back Sofa, it was too complicated to produce, and it would not be until 1963 before it was finally put into production. The Spoke-Back Sofa is made from solid oak and is available in several finishes such as black lacquer, lacquered, satin, oiled and white oiled. The sofa is available in both leather and fabrics in a wide variety of colors and fabrics.
The Spoke-Back Sofa was presented at the Copenhagen Cabinetmaker's Guild Exhibition in 1945. There, Mogensen and his colleague Hans J. Wegner presented a project entitled "A Home for the Future". The interior presented several light and functional furniture pieces, including The Spoke-Back Sofa.
