The history of the venerable Cristel brand begins as early as 1806, when entrepreneur Frédéric Japy takes over a mill and a considerable amount of associated land. Within a few years, Japy revolutionised the manufacture of watches and clocks by introducing modern mechanical techniques, inventing machines and issuing patents. For most of the 19th century, the factory at Fesches-le-Châtel, under the direction of Frédéric and his three sons, produced everything from coffee grinders to garden furniture, to typewriters and kitchen equipment. In 1830, the first saucepan is produced in the company's factory.
Unwavering commitment and innovation
Over the decades, the brand and its factories have faced major challenges: industrialisation, world wars and economic crises, but Japan's original ideas of innovative design and superior craftsmanship have never been compromised. In the 1980s, Bernadette and Paul Dodande, enamoured with the brand's incredible history and potential, took over the business and introduced Cristel kitchenware not just as simple cooking tools, but as innovative solutions and objects designed by engineers, manufactured to the highest possible quality and with a lifetime guarantee.
