The stylish Karuselli Ottoman footstool belongs to the Karuselli Lounge Chair, created by Yrjö Kukkapuro in 1964 for the Finnish furniture manufacturer Artek. The Karuselli Lounge Chair is one of the most famous and well-known lounge armchairs in the world of furniture design. Kukkapuro began developing the fiberglass chair in the 1950s, but it was not until 1964 that the well-known shape took off. The international launch of the chair took place at the Cologne Furniture Fair in 1965.
The shape of Karuselli results from extensive experimentation. The designer spent four years sculpting the shell in a desire to find the right dimensions, initially using his own body as a yardstick. Karuselli is therefore exceptionally comfortable as well as stylistically distinctive down to the last detail because of the armchair's ergonomic design based on the shape and proportions of a human body. Because of his persistent efforts, the furniture designer finally produced a form that represented an unusual combination of ergonomics, new materials, and production methods, as well as an artistic style. It was the combination of these qualities that made the Karuselli Lounge Chair a revolutionary armchair when it arrived. Ever since its launch in the mid-1960s, the chair has attracted attention - and Karuselli continues to do so today. The Karuselli Ottoman consists of a fiberglass and chrome-plated steel shell and has a swivel function on the foot so that it can be turned in different directions. The ottoman is upholstered in leather from Sörensen Prestige and is available in other tones of leather than above.
