The Danish lighting company Nuura was established in 2017 by Sofie Refer, Nadia Lassen, and Peter Østerberg. Nuura strives to create esthetic and exclusive lighting that reflects the joy and richness of Nordic scenery. Nuura means light and glory, and the lighting company is inspired by the Nordic light with the vision to bring it into the home. With the chandelier at its center, Sofie Refer has designed lighting that both enriches and complements interiors in private homes and public places.

Elegant lighting inspired by the special quality of Nordic light

Sofie Refer was born in 1974 and is today an internationally acclaimed Danish designer. She studied product design at The Danish Design School, graduating in 2003. Her origins come from a Scandinavian design tradition where respect for nature and the beauty of simplicity are key features of her designs. Sofie Refer has been awarded several prizes for her luminaires. Among the awards are The German Design Awards in 2019 for “Excellent Product Design”, Elle Decoration Collection in 2009 for “The World’s Best Design”, and the Wallpaper Design Award in 2006 for “Best Light”. She has also done projects for the Four Seasons Hotel in Abu Dhabi, the Ritz Carlton in Hong Kong, and Shiseido’s headquarters in Tokyo.
