Founded by Richard Grace, Microplane is a leading brand of culinary kitchen utensils, well known for its graters and zest irons. The American family business has been making a name for itself on the international market since the 1990s. The company originally manufactured wooden pairs for carpenters. The change came in 1994 when a housewife in Canada was about to bake an orange cake but became frustrated with her grater. So she went to get a wooden spatula, which became the starting point for a new type of kitchen utensil that the company patented. The difference was that the edges were etched instead of punched, which revolutionised the market and quickly became a hit with professional chefs as well as home cooks around the world. The lightweight and agile design of the grater, with its stylish and ergonomic handle, provides an efficient but gentle result thanks to the razor-sharp blades.
Patented Microplane® technology
Microplane uses the latest and most advanced technology. Unlike most other graters on the market that have a stamped metal process, i.e. punched edges where the teeth of the grater are made the same thickness as the rest of the blade, Microplane uses a ceramic process. In this way, each tooth of the grater is defined and sharpened, resulting in a much sharper blade and a more precise result with greater speed and efficiency, and much less strain. Made from durable stainless steel, the graters cut fine cuts without tearing or ripping the raw material. Discover and choose from a wide range of graters and zest irons for spices, herbs and ingredients such as garlic, ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon, cheese and citrus zest. Microplane also offers a wide range of kitchen utensils such as corers, mandolins, spiral cutters, pizza cutters and much more.
