PK9 is an elegant dining chair designed by Poul Kjærholm for Fritz Hansen in 1960. The chair has a modern minimalist design, with a rounded shell in nylon and an elegant column base in satin-brushed stainless steel. The shell is fully upholstered and is available in a selection of different leathers. PK9 goes perfectly with the PK58 table from Fritz Hansen.
PK9 demonstrates Kjærholm's uncompromising pursuit of the optimal form in a design. He was inspired by the chair's shape when he and his wife Hanne Kjærholm were on the beach. When she rose from the sand, a perfect seat impression was left behind, which led Kjærholm to want to design an equally perfectly shaped seating piece. During the creative process, he had his wife leave several seat impressions in clay to find the most comfortable seat. Also see the sibling model PK8 in the same design language but with three legs.
