Asmara Rug is a rug designed by Federico Pepe for Italian cc-tapis. The rug is hand-knotted in Nepal, combining a beige base with contrasting black lines to create a graphic effect. The choice of material fell on a blend of cotton fabric combined with shaggy wool from the Himalayas, which gives the rug a soft surface. It comes in measurements of 180 x 300 cm.
The rug is named Asmara Rug in homage to the capital of Eritrea, now recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site thanks to its architecture, designed by visionary architects during the fascist colonial era. The designer has focused on the choice of materials and the simplicity of the design, with lines inspired by iconography and the modernist architecture of Asmara.
