The Italian brand Poltronova was founded in 1957 by Sergio Cammilli in the town of Agliana, Tuscany. From 1958 to 1972, Ettore Sottsass was art director and thus laid the foundations for Poltronova’s design and expression.
The result of his work were iconic products such as the Joe Armchair, Ultrafragola, Superonda Sofa, and Meis, which today are the brand’s and the design world’s best-known products. Poltronova is driven by finding new designs and new ways to enter the art world. They are highly regarded thanks to their collaborations and team of designers such as Gae Aulenti, Paolo Portoghesi, Giovanni Michelucci, Angelo Mangiarotti, Archizoom, Superstudio, and De Pas, D’Urbino, Lomazzi. Together they create history and reflect the richly varied nature of Italian design.
Playful, iconic design
Poltronova creates a sense of joy and luxury with its fun and playful designs that add striking flair to any home. They feature in many of the design world’s events such as “La Casa Abitata” in Florence in 1965, “Eurodomus 3” in Milan in 1970, and “Italy: The new domestic landscape” at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1972. Today, the brand is run by Roberta Meloni, who founded Centro Studi Poltronova in 2005, with the ambition of developing an archive of important documents relating to the historic brand, while continuing to produce their most famous products.
