The 699 chair was created by Giò Ponti and put into production in 1957. The chair is also called Superleggera, which in Italian means super-light. This is because the chair is incredibly light and delicate. Superleggera's India Cane version is made of ash and has an Indian rattan seat. Choose between a natural ash finish, or a black or white lacquered finish. 699 Superleggera is also available with an upholstered seat with fabric or leather upholstery.
With its simple wooden frame and straight lines, 699 was unique when it came onto the market and the chair has come to represent modern Italian design. A chair that is solid and timeless in its design. Superleggera is a design favorite with us at Nordiska Galleriet. We like to decorate with the chair in our exhibition and let it stand for the skilled Italian craftsmanship we celebrate.
