Stilnovo is an Italian lighting manufacturer established by designer Bruno Gatta in the heart of Milan in 1946. Founded in the aftermath of the Second World War, the company’s production focused on innovative lighting design that adhered to rationalist form-follows-function principles. This principle is reflected in the design of the company today.
Stilnovo quickly became known as a prestigious and pioneering brand for both private and public spaces. Today, Stilnovo is part of the Linea Light Group, a group of companies specializing in various aspects of the lighting industry.
Italian classics
In 1955, Stilnovo was awarded the Compasso d’Oro for the first time for the design of its 2061 lamp. In 1965, they opened their new production plant in Lainate, an industrial suburb of Milan, and Giovanni Luigi Gorgoni went on to design the Buonanotte lamp.
The second half of the 1960s saw a rebranding of Stilnovo, as some of the greatest designers of the time were invited to develop new products. Designs included the Topo adjustable wing lamp by Joe Colombo, the Fante table lamp by De Pas, D’Urbino & Lomazzi, and the Periscopio floor lamp by Danilo & Corrado Aroldi.
After many years of progress and with lamps exhibited in the world's leading design museums, they ceased production, and start up again more than 30 years later - in 2019 - after being acquired by the Linea Light Group.
