Piero Lissoni was born in 1956 and is an active Italian architect. Like many other famous Italian architects and furniture designers, Lissoni studied at the Polytechnic University of Milan. In 1986, a year after graduating, he started his own design studio for industrial, interior and graphic design.
Lissoni's design principle is never to design for a specific purpose or function, but to design for people.
Piero Lissoni's design language is very precise and he likes to use clean lines. Because of this, his designs are more reminiscent of Scandinavian designers than his Italian colleagues. His designs are often total designs, i.e. full-scale interiors and architecture of hotels, offices and yachts, among others. However, he is best known for his furniture and can be counted among Italy's most successful designers. Lissoni has designed for brands such as Kartell, Flos, Fritz Hansen, Cassina, B&B Italia, Alessi and Cappellini to name but a few. Lissoni has been honoured with the Red Dot Award and the Compasso d'Oro ADI.
