Från 1957 och in I framtiden

From 1957 and into the future

Some age with dignity, others take the step even further and are refined over the years. Like a well-aged vintage wine, or a uniquely shaped design object. Arne Jacobsen's Grand Prix is an excellent example of the latter.

The Grand Prix chair was designed for Fritz Hansen in 1957 and launched at the Designers Spring Exhibition in Copenhagen. In the same year, it won the prize for most distinctive design at the Milan Triennale. While it is related to the Seven and Ant chairs, the Grand Prix is unique in its expression. And now, almost 65 years later, with its iconic lines, it is just as relevant as in its newly hatched form. Today, tomorrow and into the future, Grand Prix is a unique piece of design history.

Now the classic is being launched in a completely new version, an exclusive special edition in collaboration with Nordiska Galleriet. Grand Prix Nordiska Galleriet 2021 Edition comes with a frame of walnut and a front covered in high-quality brown leather.

It is said that as a child, Jacobsen painted over the Victorian wallpaper in his boyhood bedroom and made the walls completely white. Perhaps not very rebellious today, but at the beginning of the 20th century there was still a long way to go before all-white rooms would be considered modern, or even conceivable.

But then, throughout his life and career, Jacobsen would continue to be ahead of his time. Always on the cutting edge and at the same time just as much in a total timelessness. There are many examples of this in his enormous design catalogue.

Grand Prix Nordiska Galleriet 2021 Edition goes on sale on Friday 24 September at 10.00 and is sold exclusively at Nordiska Galleriet.

NO GA launch three tables by legendary modernist Paul T. Frankl

Paul T. Frankl (1886–1958) designed a series of sofa tables for the Michigan-based Johnson Furniture Company in the late 1940s and early 1950s. The low, biomorphic-shaped tables were sold as  “cocktail tables,” a modernized version of the conventional coffee table. Now three of them - Amoeba, Big foot and Plectrum - are being launched by NO GA in close collaboration with the Paul T. Frankl Estate.
