Arne Jacobsen created the 4130 Grand Prix chair for Fritz Hansen in 1957 and launched it that year at the Danish Museum of Art Design in Copenhagen during the Designers Spring Exhibition. Later that year, the chair was shown at the Triennale in Milan, where it won the Grand Prix for the show's most distinguished work. The 4130 Grand Prix has beautiful wooden legs to match the shell and is available in a variety of wood species and finishes.
Like Arne Jacobsen's Ant and Series 7, Grand Prix is also made of molded veneer. Each chair's shell is created in one piece, consisting of nine layers of veneer and two layers of Indian cotton that have been molded into their correct shape over steam. This gives the chair a comfortable flexibility. The backrest can also be reclined, adding to the elevated level of comfort.
