MR Chair - Rattan was already designed in 1927 by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and is since 2018 relaunched by Knoll. The chair is an example of one of the earliest pieces of steel furniture created by Mies van der Rohe. The chair's polished chrome frame recalls Marcel Breuer, who was Mies van der Rohe's colleague at the legendary Bauhaus school, and his furniture made of steel. The rounded shapes of the MR Chair - Rattan, on the other hand, are thought to be a modern interpretation of 19th century rocking chairs. The chair's seat is hand-woven from natural rattan, creating an organic contrast to the more sterile chrome frame. The rattan has been lacquered for durability but requires maintenance to avoid the risk of drying out. MR Chair - Rattan is stamped with the KnollStudio logo and bears Mies van der Rohe's signature.
