Gloster
Gloster’s journey began in 1960s West Africa among lush teak plantations, where passionate entrepreneurs and furniture makers laid the foundations for what would later become the exclusive brand. Thanks to rapid development, the products were exported to Europe, and in 1981 Gloster as we know it today was founded.
In the late 90s, Gloster started to work with other materials such as aluminum and stainless steel in combination with teak, and its furniture is at the forefront of the outdoor lounge style. Gloster became one of the world’s foremost leaders in the design of teak furniture for outdoor environments. Craftsmanship, quality, and design are the three words that define the company, and the brand uses only the best available materials and techniques to create beautiful and durable furniture.
The Gloster range includes both traditional and more modern outdoor furniture and furnishings. What they have in common is that the furniture is handmade, and every rounded corner and joint is carefully crafted. With a beautiful polished shine or a soft natural finish, each piece of Gloster teak comes from carefully selected plantations and is thoroughly inspected to ensure the highest quality. Teak wood with high natural oil content is exceptionally durable, highly resistant to rotting, and virtually impervious to the effects of sun, rain, frost, or snow. Teak is universally recognized as the most valuable tropical wood and is most commonly used for luxury furniture, ships, and decorative building materials for all the wood’s qualities.
Focus on designing and building the world’s finest outdoor furniture
Gloster’s production of teak is characterized by its commitment to quality and its dedication to resources and knowledge of wood. The teak used by Gloster has a life cycle of at least 50 years, and its wood can always be traced back to its origin. The brand’s core value is to treat the world, its resources, and its people with respect. The teak plantations in Java, where Gloster’s material comes from, have been managed for countless generations by Perum Perhutani. Today, their plantations cover some 1.1 million hectares of teak, making them the largest teak plantation in the world. Perum Perhutani also works extensively with local communities during the rotating planting cycle, when they encourage villagers to plant crops between harvests.
Today, Gloster continues to create furniture with the same passion, confidence, and pride as when the brand was first launched, with the clear aim of being furniture manufacturers whose sole focus is to design and build the finest outdoor furniture in the world.
