Fritz Hansen's popular chair, the Series 7 was designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1952. The chair was originally designed with an armrest, as in this design, 3207 Series 7, which is the reason for the shape of the shell. The chair is made by the same method as its predecessor, the Ant chair. The shell is created in one piece, consisting of nine layers of veneer layered with two layers of Indian cotton and pressed into its true shape. The manufacturing process produces a flexible backrest that can be flexed, adding to the chair's elevated level of comfort. The chair is available in a range of woods and colors, with a clear, colored or fully lacquered finish. A painted finish leaves the natural texture of the wood visible, making each chair unique. With a fully varnished finish, every chair is identical. The thin legs are made of chrome-plated steel.
The Series 7 has become Fritz Hansen's most popular chair of all time and has been launched in a variety of designs. Nordiska Galleriet was the first recipient of Series 7 in Sweden, and the chair is currently our most popular model. Its popularity speaks volumes about its iconic status, with Series 7's form, function, and modern design history making it a classic and a firm favorite with us.
