Arne Jacobsen created 3130 Grand Prix for Fritz Hansen in 1957 and launched it that year at the Danish Museum of Art & Design in Copenhagen during the Designers Spring Exhibition. Later that year, the chair was shown at the Triennale in Milan, where it won the Grand Prix for the show's most distinguished work. Since then, the chair has gone by the same name.
Like Arne Jacobsen's Ant and Series 7, the Gran Prix is made of molded veneer. Each chair's shell is created in one piece, consisting of nine layers of veneer and two layers of Indian cotton, molded into its correct shape over steam. This gives the chair's backrest a comfortable flexibility. The chair is available in several variants, this one fully upholstered with a variety of fabrics and leathers to choose from. 3130 Gran Prix has delicate legs made of chrome-plated steel and is stackable.
